George Derville Rowlandson - The Wallflower

The Wallflower

George Derville Rowlandson

1861 – 1928

Trained at Westminster School of Art, like many artists at the time, he then sought further experience in Paris.  His first employment was as an illustrator, graduating as he became better known, to portrait commissions, of both humans, and, very successfully, dogs and horses.  He was ultimately best known for lively depictions of the foxhunting field, and who knows, the charming young lady in the work displayed may have been present at a Hunt Ball of the time.

Oils on canvas.
