David Wright was a British Artist, his best work arguably the series of glamorous models he drew for The Sketch and Men Only during World War Two.
Essentially taught by his uncle, the illustrator Gilbert Wright, he illustrated many women’s magazines pre-war, but after his success with The Sketch, his post-war work was largely either for the advertising industry, notably for Schweppes, or for the strip cartoon, Carol Day in the Daily Mail from 1956.
His wife Esme was usually his model. It would be interesting to know what inspired Into Battle – had someone upset her?
