Facets of Nature, a fascinating talk on gemstones by an expert facet cutter, got our 2020 lecture series off to a very polished start last week.

In an entertaining, well-attended talk, Jamie Richardson guided us through the many different types of gemstones, and how facet cutters can get the best out of them. He also brought along a glittering array of gemstones, including convincing-looking replicas of some very famous diamonds. One particularly fine example, created by Jamie, took sixty hours of painstaking work to produce.

Tim Porter will present the next talk in the series which will focus on local history – the forgotten county of Winchcombeshire. It will take place on Thursday, 12th March, starting at 7pm (drinks available from 6.30pm). The admission price is £10 (£9 for Friends and Benefactors) which, as usual, includes a free glass of wine or soft drink. Contact the museum for details and to book a place – book early.

The Broadway Museum’s 2020 Lecture Series is sponsored by NFU Mutual (Moreton-in-Marsh).
