The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway
June 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm| £10
Join us as Richard Johnson, Chairman of Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway recounts the story of this fascinating piece of local history and how the railway was painstakingly brought back to life and now operates successfully transporting 1000s of visitors per year, back in time and across the Gloucestershire Countryside.
Richard will provide a brief history of the railway from its beginnings in 1900.
Learn how the society was formed to try and save the line when closure was threatened and discover how the society then went on to acquire the trackbed of the line between Broadway and Cheltenham, and reinstate it.
Finally in 2018, after nearly forty years of effort, the railway reopened at Broadway, and trains now run over a fifteen mile long railway between Cheltenham Race Course and Broadway.
The talk will be illustrated with about 50 slides taking us through the railways image archives.
