Talk – In the Shadow of Sargent
April 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
| £10In the shadow of Sargent Dr Malcolm Rogers
John Singer Sargent’s works are well known, but the artists who were his friends and who worked alongside him in Broadway – Frank Millet, Edwin Austin Abbey, Frederick Barnard, Alfred Parsons and Lawrence and Laura Alma-Tadema – are less familiar.
The lecture will introduce you to their work as well as to a number of other artists who visited the village or stayed in the villages around in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
Styles will range through the late Pre-Raphaelite, Impressionism, the Renaissance and Medieval fantasies of Abbey to the technicolour extravagance and eroticism of Lawrence Alma-Tadema.
Also featured will be the work of the illustrators and caricaturists who visited the village.
Doors Open at 6.15 – We will be serving wine and nibbles
Talk to commence at 7pm
