This lecture will outline the stylistic history of gardens and parks during the decades prior to Capability Brown.  Looking at his life and career, the lecture then considers the general approach and aims of his work.

It focuses on his style under the headings of ground, water and planting, and finally explores what happened to his parks in the centuries after they were completed.

Speaker Roger Turner
