After training on the Harrow Studio Pottery Course Jacky Mahony worked as a potter in Oxfordshire and Devon. Later training in art therapy led to NHS therapeutic work. Subsequent teaching and PhD research examined her art practice.
Jacky is inspired by a love of nature. Making stoneware and porcelain for use, she uses labour intensive methods and simple technologies to explore and represent natural landscapes.
Experiments with local sands, clays and ashes are incorporated into her work, and imprints are taken from plants, seeds and trees. Effects of high temperature firing become visible through extreme processes. Form and surface transmit the irregular and intimate quality of things made by hand.
Recently setting up a studio with a different type of kiln, has focused tests for new glazes on her passion for the Scottish landscape and its origins and effects. New work is emerging and shows these explorations.
