Stoneware Bowl workshop with Dave Short

Stoneware Bowl workshop with Dave Short

Make a small stoneware decorative bowl using a naked coiling technique with “The Great Pottery Throwdown Finalist” Dave Short

At this two hour workshop you will learn how to use coiling techniques to make a stoneware bowl with an naked coil design of your choosing.

The piece you are making has coils of clay which are gradually built up in a careful and intentional pattern. The coils are joined and smoothed on the inside of the vessel but are visible on the outside, hence the “naked coil” description.

Pottery Throwdown finalist Dave Short will give you a demonstration of the techniques required and will then be on hand to support you through the designing and making process.

At the end of the session Dave will take your bowl away to bisque fire, colour, glaze and gloss fire.

At the end of this process you will be able to pick up your bowl from Broadway Museum and Art Gallery.

Dave will supply clay, pottery tools and a glazing and firing service.

You should bring an apron or wear old clothes.

Potters often talk about “praying to the kiln gods”!Firing pottery has a certain amount of risk. Cracks and other calamities are not common, but do crop up from time to time. This jeopardy is part of the pottery experience.

Tea/Coffee and a warm mince pie will be available on arrival
